I managed to get it to work in the end with these steps;

1) Copy ‘License.lic’ to "C:\Autodesk\Network License Manager" folder

2) Change the format to .txt by renaming it.

3) Edit the ‘License.txt’ file and replace ‘LOCALHOST’ and ‘MAC’ with your computer/hostname and your Ethernet address. My ethernet address was showing as ‘ffffffff’ which I think is due to also running Tailscale which shows as a network adapter.

If this is the case, then follow this guide ‘https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Lmtools-reports-ffffffff-for-the-ethernet-address.html’

My service was called ‘Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service’

4) Continue to follow the steps in the original guide 😊

This could also be in the 3D Modeling forum section. What is the usual rule when that happens - cross post, or make a thread there that links here, or only post in one section and hope people find it with search?

For those (like me) who were having trouble finding the Medicines and getting it working...
I've cleaned up PART of the instructions (based on some fiddling, plus posts by others in this forum) - hope it helps.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Install Autodesk Application
- Do Not Start it yet

2) Medicines (MEDICINE)
The Medicines folder is called "MEDICINE" in the .ISO file
- install the Autodesk network license manager (v11.19.4) --> The file called "nlm11-19-4-1-ipv4-ipv6-win64.msi"
Default install location is "C:\Autodesk\Network License Manager"

- stop any running instance (lmgrd, adskflex) if you have one

- Replace adskflex.exe
"C:\Autodesk\Network License Manager"
with the one from "MEDICINE"

- Replace netapi32.dll
\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AdskLicensing\Current\AdskLicensingAgent\
with the one from "MEDICINE"

3) Copy and Edit license.lic (there is no lic.dat - though I don't think it matters which name you give it)
- copy license.lic from the "MEDICINE"
to "C:\Autodesk\Network License Manager"

- Start LMTOOLS Utility (lmtools.exe GUI)
(Find it in "C:\Autodesk\Network License Manager")
Under 'System Settings'
- find HOSTNAME (example, mine is LocattsPC)
- and MAC (ethernet) address (example MAC address is 00-B0-D0-63-C2-26)
Note: it might show two or more MAC addresses; mine looked like this (Ethernet "00005e0053af 00B0D063C226")
My physical MAC address was the second part, while the first was my wifi MAC address.
If you're confused, google can help - it's easy, don't worry.

- Edit license.lic with a text editor
Change the first line "SERVER LOCALHOST MAC"
to the info you found above
i.e., "SERVER LocattsPC 00B0D063C226"
Save it.

TWO options:
4a) Start Network License Manager manually :
Run the license manager with "lmgrd.exe -z -c lic.dat" from "C:\Autodesk\Network License Manager" folder

Or

4b) Create a Service: (suggested)
Start LMTOOLS Utility (lmtools.exe GUI)
find it in "C:\Autodesk\Network License Manager" folder
Under 'config services'
- replace Service Name with "Autodesk"
- choose C:\Autodesk\Network License Manager\lmgrd.exe for path to lmgrd
- choose X:\path\where\you\saved\lic.dat for path to license file
- choose a empty file to have debug logs (optional)
- tick 'use services'
- tick 'start server at power up'
- click 'Save Service'
I had some trouble saving - it told me I didn't have permission to the save folder; try restarting the program.

Under 'service/license file'
- choose configuration using services
- tick 'LMTOOLS ignore license file path env var"
(dont click that if you you wanna use a ditributed licensing .. or you will have to edit or create a Licpath.lic file)

Under 'start/stop/read'
- click 'start server'
- click 'rereadlicense file'

Under 'server status'
- click 'perform status enquiry'
check that you have 'adskflex: UP v11.18.0' (mine was adskflex: UP v11.19.4)
check features are activated : Users of 87545ACD_2022_0F: (Total of 100 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use) for example

Under 'server diags'
- check all featured can be checked out
- check logs
- also win 'config services' if you configured it

5) Start Your Autodesk Application
- When prompted select "Use a network license"
- Select "Single license server"
- Use 127.0.0.1, localhost or where the flexlm daemon is installed (syntax could be port@server).

6) Edit hosts file:
- run notepad "As Administrator"
- file -> open
- browse to "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc"
- change file type from "Text documents (*.txt)" to "All files (*.*)" and some files should appear
- click on 'hosts' and then open
- add the following 3 lines to the bottom
127.0.0.1 genuine-software.autodesk.com
127.0.0.1 genuine-software1.autodesk.com
127.0.0.1 genuine-software2.autodesk.com
- save it.

7) ???

8) Profit.
